Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez runs over an 81-year-old in an electric wheelchair

Inter reserve goalkeeper Josep Martinez was involved in a fatal accident that saw him run over an elderly person on a wheelchair.

According to the report in the Italian media, the 81-year-old was moving on an electric wheelchair in the lane reserved for cyclists and decided to cross the road, and was hit by the car being driven by Martinez.

The Inter goalkeeper immediately stopped his car to give first aid to the elderly person. Police rushed to the scene and medical officials tried to give first aid to the 81-year-old, but although he was flown to the nearest hospital, he was certified dead a few minutes later.

The report said that according to a number of witnesses on the scene, the elderly person had appeared to suffer a heart attack, which led his wheelchair to veer outside the cycling lane.

After the incident, Inter decided to call their scheduled press conference of their first-team coach Cristian Chivu, ahead of Wednesday’s Serie A clash against Fiorentina.
