Mosta picked up their second win in a row when they edged past bottom-placed Tarxien Rainbows 1-0 in a drab encounter at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
It was another important victory for the Blues, who, in midweek, had already overcome the challenge of their neighbouring rivals Naxxar Lions.
It was far from a vintage performance from either side as the match was devoid of scoring opportunities, but in the end, a moment of brilliance from substitute Joaquim Fernandes settled the match after he won and converted a second-half penalty.ż
The win lifted Mosta to eighth place on 11 points, one ahead of Żabbar SP.
For Tarxien, it was a very poor performance and they need to step up their game by several notches if they are to remain in the Premier League next season.
The first half was devoid of chances, with Tarxien coming close when Jai Quitongo picked Alexandre Octavio inside the area, but David Akpan was on hand to save.
Mosta responded with a Joao Victor run and his cross-shot was not turned in by Prince Chibuzor.
After the break, the match remained a drab affair until Mosta scored the winner on 59 minutes when Joaquim Fernandes was floored inside the area and from the spot he sent Cassar the wrong way.
Fernandes almost grabbed a second minutes later but his shot hit the upright.
