The Malta Football Association has launched an internal investigation after around €15,000 went missing from the Match Operations Department.
Sources close to the Malta Football Association confirmed to the Times of Malta that the local governing body of football is looking at the issue, and a report will be submitted to the members of the MFA Bureau on Thursday, who will discuss the matter further.
“The Malta Football Association informs that it has commissioned an internal inquiry to establish the facts surrounding allegations of financial discrepancies within the Match Operations department,” the MFA statement said.
“The inquiry was tasked with reviewing all related transactions and interviewing all individuals involved in their handling.
“The inquiry report is expected to be submitted to the Malta FA Bureau in the coming days, after which, the Bureau will determine the appropriate course of action based on its findings.
“Given the sensitivity of the matter, the Malta FA will not be issuing any further comments or statements at this stage.”
Reports in the Maltese media on Tuesday had claimed that the financial issue happened after Malta’s World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands on October 9 at the National Stadium.
However, the Malta FA said that these claims were incorrect.
