Swieqi United produced one of the biggest shocks of the FA Trophy by eliminating Sliema Wanderers, courtesy of a dramatic last-gasp winner from Samuel Okoh.

The second-tier side looked set to pull off the upset when Isaac Davey gave the Owls the lead in the 82nd minute. However, Sliema Wanderers – the competition’s most successful club with 22 FA Trophy triumphs – forced what appeared to be a late reprieve as Roko Prsa struck the equaliser deep into stoppage time.

Yet Swieqi were not done. Despite Sliema lining up in a strong formation, the Blues were unable to regain control, and Okoh’s decisive late goal sealed a famous victory for the Owls to advance into the Last 16 of the FA Trophy.

It marked a bitter blow for Sliema Wanderers, in particular following their recent defeat in the Jubilee Cup final against Valletta.

Meanwhile, Hibernians, Floriana and Tarxien Rainbows also booked their place in the Last 16.

Hibernians, winners of last season’s edition, began the defence of their triumph with a 3–1 victory over Challenge League side Gudja United.

The Paolites took an early lead after just eight minutes when Cleiton found the net, before Lucas Villela doubled the advantage shortly after the restart in the 54th minute.

Gudja briefly threatened a comeback when Aleksa Zivkovic pulled a goal back moments later, but Hibernians quickly restored their two-goal cushion, with Villela scoring his second of the match to seal qualification.

Floriana emerged victorious in an all-Premier League encounter against Marsaxlokk, with the tie decided by former Marsaxlokk defender Lucas Lopes.

The Greens broke the deadlock in the second half, with Lopes beating Marsaxlokk’s goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi, a former Floriana himself.

The win provides a timely boost for Floriana ahead of their highly anticipated league clash against title rivals Ħamrun Spartans.

Elsewhere, Jubilee Cup semi-finalists Tarxien Rainbows eased into the next round with a comprehensive 4–0 victory over Għajnsielem.

Wallisson opened the scoring after 25 minutes, before the Rainbows added three more goals after the interval through Nhaysonn Rosa, Claudio Barbosa and Kyle Gatt.

The FA Trophy last-16 ties are scheduled to be played later this month.
