Brazilian striker Jonny is set to be included in Ħamrun Spartans’ matchday squad for the crucial YoHealth Malta Premier League Top 6 clash against Floriana on Wednesday at the National Stadium.
The speedy forward made his return to Ħamrun Spartans last summer but was omitted from the squad of players eligible to compete in the YoHealth Malta Premier League as he continued his recovery from a long-term injury.
However, during the past few months, the players has slowly stepped up his fitness level and has convinced coach Giacomo Modica that he is ready to make his return for the club’s first-team squad for the second part of the season.
The Spartans’ club officials inserted Jonny’s name on the Premier League registration list of players and could make his long-awaited return in domestic football against Floriana on Wednesday.
Jonny’s return is a welcome boost for Modica, particularly at this time, when the Spartans are going through a bit of a transition with several players leaving the club and others who just arrived but are not yet eligible to make their debut for the club.
Jonny enjoyed a highly-successful spell with the Spartans between 2022 and 2024, where he helped the club win two league titles.
In total he made 72 appearances for the club, scoring ten goals.
