The Premier League match between Birkirkara and Gżira United, scheduled for Friday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, was postponed due to a technical issue with one of the goalposts.

Birkirkara and Gżira United took the pitch to start their warm-up when the ground officials were called by the players to inspect one of the goal posts, as it did not meet the required measurements to host a Premier League match.

Ground officials at the Tedesco Stadium tried to fix the problem so that the match would be held as planned.

However, the issue could not be solved, and the match referee, Alex Johnson, decided to call the players off the pitch and postpone the match to a later date.

The Malta Premier League issued a statement to confirm the match postponement, and revealed that ground staff were working hard to fix the problem to try and host the second match between Żabbar St Patrick and Naxxar Lions.

“The match between Birkirkara F.C. and Gzira United Football Club has been cancelled due to a technical issue identified prior to kick-off,” the Malta Premier League said in a statement.

“Ground staff at the Victor Tedesco Stadium are currently working to resolve the matter in time for the second match scheduled today.”
