Birkirkara have sacked Gianluca Festa as first team coach and have brought back to the club Paul Zammit, the Premier League club have announced.
The Premier League club took this decision after the team’s 1-0 defeat to Marsaxlokk on Saturday that left the team in the bottom part of the standings with just three points from three matches.
“Birkirkara FC officially announces that the club has terminated, with immediate effect, its relationship with Head Coach Gianluca Festa and Assistant Coach Alessandro Cardini. These terminations were agreed mutually and amicably,” the club said in a statement.
“The Club also confirms the return of coach Paul Zammit, who will take over the team with immediate effect.
“Coach Zammit will be assisted by Darren Farrugia, marking the return of a coaching partnership that previously worked together at Birkirkara FC.
“Birkirkara FC remains fully committed to its sporting objectives and will continue working with determination to achieve its targets for the current season.”
Zammit had been without a job after he was sacked by Sliema Wanderers last month and he is set for his third spell at Birkirkara FC after he was in charge in 2011 and in 2017.
Zammit is set to make his debut on the Stripes bench on Tuesday when they face Tarxien Rainbows.
