Hibernians sign young midfielder Matthew Debattista from Swieqi United

Hibernians have secured the services of young midfielder Matthew Debattista from  Challenge League side Swieqi United, the Times of Malta can confirm.

The Paolites have been working hard this month to bring in fresh talent to their first team squad after a disappointing first part of the season.

Hibernians missed out on a Top Six berth in the Opening Round and are looking to produce a strong showing in the Closing Round in a bid to muscle their way into contention for the Premier League title.

Debattista has agreed personal terms with the Paolites and is set to put pen paper on an 18-month contract.

The Paola club have traditionally always been on the lookout for young Maltese talent and coach Branko Nisevic has been keen on working with him.

This season, Debattista has struggled to leave his mark at Swieqi United, making 11 appearances and scoring just one goal.

A move to Hibernians is an opportunity for the 23-year-old to work on his game and force his way into helping the Paolites challenge for the main domestic honours.
