Paul Zammit enjoyed a perfect start on his return as coach of Birkirkara as he led the Stripes to a convincing 5-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows.
Zammit has only been in the job for a few days after Gianluca Festa stepped down from his job after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Marsaxlokk.
But the former Sliema Wanderers coach seems to have brought order to the Birkirkara clan with a fine victory against the bottom-placed Tarxien.
Birkirkara were off to a perfect start as Kemar Reid fired them ahead after only 15 minutes of play.
That early breakthrough removed any form of jitters among the Birkirkara players, and they continued to play with confidence.
The Rainbows tried to fight back and Claudio Henrique’s powerhouse was smothered away by Grech.
Achaempong timed his run in the box but his shot was saved by Miguel Spiteri.
Past the half-hour mark, Ronovan Bispo made it 2-0 with a powerful shot.
Five minutes from half-time, Bayo Mben pushed forward on the right flank and hit a diagonal shot that gave no chance to Spiteri to put the game beyond Tarxien’s reach.
In the second half, Birkirkara continued to dominate and on 77 minutes, Bayo Mben turned provider as he set up Aleandro Garzia, who advanced with the ball and hit past Spiteri.
Nine minutes from time, Garzia struck again when he advanced with the ball and breached Spiteri’s net for the fifth time.
