Gżira United have announced the signing of Latvian Aivars Emsis.
The Maroons have enjoyed a very strong start to their Closing Round campaign as they are currently sharing top spot with Floriana after four matches played, as they look to battle for a Top 6 berth and a place in European football this summer.
Emsis is set to provide more physical power to the Gżira United forward line and will provide another option for the club in the attacking department alongside Brazilian striker Maxuell Maia.
“We are pleased to announce the signing of 27-year-old striker Aivars Emsis,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“Standing at 1.92m, Aivars adds strength, presence, and attacking power to our frontline.
“He will surely add more strength to our front line to help us reach our goals this season.
“Aivars, welcome to Gżira United FC.”
The Latvian forward spent most of his career in Eastern Europe as after spending the first three years of his professional career in his country, with JDFS Alberts, Jelgava and Spartaks, he spent a year in Germany with Bischofswerda.
In 2021, Emsis moved to the Lithuanian championship, where he played for top side Dziugas.
In 2023 he had a short loan spell in Italy with Lavello bu was soon back in Lithuania, where he donned the colours of Banga.
