The highly anticipated The Cyclist by Agones Criterium took place on February 10, officially launching the local road cycling season.
The Safi/Kirkop circuit was transformed into a vibrant arena of speed, strategy, and athletic excellence.
Organised by Agones, the criterium featured multiple race categories, including Elite, Female, Masters 40+, Masters 50+, Under 23, and Junior divisions.
The professionally designed closed-loop circuit provided riders of all levels with the opportunity to compete in a fast-paced and tactical racing format.
Spectators were kept on the edge of their seats as cyclists navigated tight corners and powerful straight sprints in pursuit of podium finishes.
The event attracted an impressive field of participants, showcasing remarkable endurance and race strategy throughout the day. The Elite race proved to be one of the main highlights, culminating in a thrilling sprint finish claimed by The Cyclist by Agones rider Antoine Magaud.
“The Cyclist by Agones Criterium was created to celebrate competitive cycling while strengthening our local sports community,” said Warren Muscat, event director and president of Agones.
“We are very pleased with the strong turnout, the sportsmanship displayed by the riders, and the enthusiastic support from spectators and partners.”
Safety and professionalism remained top priorities throughout the event, with coordinated support from medical teams, race marshals, and volunteers ensuring a smooth and secure experience for all participants.
In a statement, Agones extended its sincere gratitude to the Safi and Kirkop Local Councils, the Police, Transport Malta, event partners, volunteers, and members of the public whose collaboration made the event a resounding success.
