Floriana were left to rue a series of missed chances as the Greens were held to a goalless draw by nearest rivals Marsaxlokk.

The Greens started brightly, and on eight minutes, Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona charged out of his goal to anticipate Myles Beerman.

The southerners responded with Dodo Soares header that finished just wide.

On 29 minutes, Mustapha Jah connected to Mattia Veselji’s cross, but his header finished just over.

Four minutes from the break, Jah sped inside the area but was anticipated by Calleja Cremona.

That turned out to be Jah’s final contribution, as at the start of the second half he picked up an injury and was replaced by Kenon Dervisagic.

Jake Grech should have put Floriana ahead on 51 minutes but he fired wide from a few metres out.

Four minutes later, Grech tried his luck again from a free-kick, but his effort was saved by Calleja Cremona.

On 68 minutes, Rasmus Linden burst through from the right, but his shot flew just over.

Twelve minutes from time, Rui Areias had a great chance to win it for Floriana but headed over from routine distance.

The last chance of the match fell to Marsaxlokk when Soares sped inside the area and was denied by Cioletti as the stalemate prevailed.
