The Assikura Women’s League resumes this weekend following Malta’s debut in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers over the past week.

While the title race has already been decided, there is still plenty to play for in the closing weeks of the season.

Mġarr United sealed the championship with three league matches to spare, but the unbeaten Greens will be eager to maintain their focus as they aim to finish the campaign without a defeat.

Their next test comes against San Ġwann, who sit second from bottom with just five points. On paper, the newly-crowned champions start as clear favourites to continue their dominant run.

San Ġwann will approach the match amid changes off the pitch, having recently announced the departure of coach Julian Camilleri.

Mġarr currently sit comfortably at the top of the standings with 47 points.

Attention will also be on the race for second place, which could take another twist this weekend as Swieqi United host an in-form Birkirkara side.

Swieqi occupy second place on 36 points, but they face a Birkirkara team enjoying a strong run of form. The Stripes are currently fourth with 25 points and, while they can no longer finish second, it still promises to be an intriguing encounter.

Hibernians, who are also chasing the runners-up spot, will look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on bottom-placed Valletta, who have collected just one point so far this season.

Once the league campaign concludes, attention will shift to the domestic cup, which will bring the curtain down on the 2025/2026 season.
