Mġarr United took another decisive step towards a historic treble with a dominant 5-0 victory over San Ġwann in the quarter-finals of the Assikura Women’s Knockout on Saturday.
Already unbeaten league champions and Jubilee Cup winners, the defending Knockout holders delivered a ruthless performance to underline their status as favourites to lift the trophy once again.
Goals from Yulya Carella and Veronique Mifsud set the tone early, before Alejandra Villegas struck twice to put the result beyond doubt.
Maria Hernandez completed the scoring in a one-sided contest that showcased Mġarr’s depth and attacking quality.
In the other quarter-final clash, Birkirkara edged past Swieqi United with a narrow 2-1 win.
Momo Ueda opened the score for the Stripes before Swieqi levelled terms at the death through goalkeeper Patricia Araujo in a dramatic end to the regular time of this semi-final.

In extra-time, the Stripes found a winner late in the game through Kleydiana Monteiro.
The results set up a compelling semi-final lineup.
Mġarr United will face Hibernians in what promises to be a high-level encounter, while Birkirkara face Valletta.
The semi-finals are scheduled for April 25 and will take place after Malta’s upcoming Women’s World Cup qualifying matches against Northern Ireland.
