Olympic champion Evenepoel to skip Paris-Roubaix

Olympic gold medallist Remco Evenepoel will skip the cobbled Paris–Roubaix one-day race this Sunday and instead focus on his favoured Liege-Bastogne-Liege later this month.

The Belgian Red Bull rider hinted after his impressive third-place showing at the Tour of Flanders at the weekend that he could take part at Paris-Roubaix.

But Red Bull said on Monday he would stick to his original plans and target Liege-Bastogne-Liege, which he won in 2022 and 2023, to be raced April 27.

“Remco will stay focused on the Ardennes, as planned,” a team spokesperson told Belgian television channel Sporza.

“After his impressive debut at the Tour of Flanders, Paris–Roubaix is a goal we can consider together in the coming years. But for now, we are sticking to our plan.”

Evenepoel had said Paris–Roubaix was not on his schedule but that he was open to the idea.

“I’m leaving the door open, but I think others have already closed it,” he said.
