HIBERNIANS 2-0 MOSTA
Miullen 19, 52
Referee: Glen Tonna.
Yellow cards: Victor Silva, Cleiton, Bolanos, Caruana, Miullen.
Hibernians secured their place in the top flight with a crucial 2-0 victory over Mosta, a result that mathematically guarantees their safety with one match to spare.
The defeat leaves Mosta rooted to the bottom of the table on nine points, with their fate to be sealed on the final matchday.
Meanwhile, the remaining Bottom Six fixtures will conclude on Sunday, when Å»abbar St. Patrick – still fighting to avoid the drop – face Sliema Wanderers.
Hibernians started the brighter of the two sides, showing greater intent in the early stages as they looked to take control of the match. Their positive approach paid off in the 19th minute when Miullen found the net from close range to give the Paolites a deserved lead.
Mosta attempted to respond, with Giancarlo Gonçalves trying his luck from distance, but his effort sailed over the bar. At the other end, Hibernians continued to threaten, with Cleiton seeing a shot blocked by David Akpan before sending another effort behind for a corner.
From that set-piece, Hibernians came close to doubling their lead, with captain Bjorn Kristensen striking the woodwork.
Mosta nearly produced a surprise equaliser when Prince Chibuzor broke through and attempted a lob, which was deflected behind for a corner. The Nigerian forward remained a lively presence, and from the resulting set-piece, he sent a close-range effort just wide.
Hibernians struck again early in the second half, with Miullen grabbing his second of the night. The goal was confirmed following a lengthy Football Video Support review, further strengthening the Paolites’ grip on the match.
From that point on, Hibernians remained firmly in control, managing the game effectively while limiting Mosta’s attacking threat. The Blues struggled to create meaningful chances, as the Paolites comfortably saw out the result to secure their top-flight status.
