What started as a special encounter turned into a meaningful connection.
Alex was not only a legendary racing driver and Paralympic champion, but a symbol of what the human spirit can achieve.
From his success in Formula One and CART, to the life-changing accident that would have stopped many, he chose instead to rise again, becoming a multiple Paralympic gold medallist and an inspiration to millions around the world. His life was a testament to courage, reinvention, and an unwavering refusal to give up.
Alex was the embodiment of resilience, but more than that, he was a man who lived with purpose, humility, humour, and an unshakable belief in the beauty of life, even in its most difficult moments.
I still remember a conversation we had where he told me, “In life there is always opportunity, even in the worst and most painful situations, always seek to seize the moment and never give up.” Those words were not just advice they were a reflection of how he lived every single day.
One memory that will always make me smile is when we went to Ramla Bay in Gozo.
Alex, with his characteristic enthusiasm, suggested we have a swim race. Despite everything he had been through, there was no hesitation, no limitation in his mindset. By the time I had taken off my shirt, he was already 50 metres ahead.
That was Alex, always ahead, always pushing boundaries, always reminding us that the only real limits are the ones we accept.
Thank you, Alex, for the time we shared, for the lessons, and for the inspiration you gave so generously. You did not just overcome adversity; you redefined what is possible.
My deepest condolences go to Daniela and the entire family. May you find strength in the incredible legacy he leaves behind and in the countless lives he touched.
Rest in peace, champion, legend, and true inspiration. Your legacy will live on for generations.
