Evaristo Beccalossi, one of Inter’s legendary midfielders, died in Brescia on Wednesday.
The former footballer and sports manager, who before joining the Nerazzurri also played in his hometown of Brescia, would have turned 70 in a few days, on May 12th.
Becalossi’s health had been critical for a year after an illness in January 2025 and a long period in a coma.
The death occurred during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday at the Poliambulanza clinic in Brescia, where Beccalossi was hospitalized.
Beccalossi was one of the most talented players in Italian football. A talented attacking midfielder, he came through the youth ranks of his hometown Brescia.
In 1978 he moved to Inter where he quickly established himself as a key player for the Nerazzurri.
Beccalossi enjoyed a stellar career wtih Inter where he collected 216 appearances and scoring 30 goals.
During his spell at Inter, Beccalossi won the Serie A title in 1979-80 under the stewardship of coach Eugenio Bersellini and twice the Coppa Italia.
After leaving Inter, he moved to Sampdoria and Monza before bringing to an end his distinguished career at Barletta in the Italian Serie B.
Despite his talent, Beccalossi was never called up for the Italy national football team at senior level throughout his career due to his inconsistency and poor work-rate, and was infamously excluded from the 1982 FIFA World Cup-winning side by manager Enzo Bearzot. He obtained 7 caps for Italy at youth level, scoring 1 goal.
