Malta’s top female tennis player, Francesca Curmi, added another prestigious title to her name after winning the International Tennis Federation W75 tournament that was held in the French city of Blois.
Curmi lifted the trophy after she defeated seventh seed Alevtina Ibragimova, of Russia, in straight sets, with a 6-3 7-5 scoreline.
It was another remarkable result for the Maltese player, who has been consistently playing international tournaments throughout the year and further underlines the progress she has achieved in the last few years.
Curmi had started the tournament in some style when breezing past French player Astrid Lew Yan Foon 6-3 6-1 in the first round.
Next up was the tournament top seed Lola Radivojevic and here Curmi produced an impressive performance as she brushed aside the Serbian player 7-5 6-3.
In the quarter-finals, Curmi broke little sweat to overcome another French player, Jenny Lim, 6-1, 6-0.
Curmi found a much tougher in the semi-finals where she was up against Turkish player Ipek Oz.
The Turkish player won the opening set 6-2, but Curmi managed to turn the game around by taking the next two sets 7-5 6-4 and secure a place in the final.
In the final against Ibragimova, Curmi did well to hold her nerves in a match which saw both players managing seven breaks of serve each.
However, Curmi did well to keep hold of her nerves to secure the win.
