Hibernians Football Club have appointed Turkish mentor Tuğberk Tanrıvermiş as the club’s new head coach.
The Turkish tactician joins the Paolites with a strong reputation as one of the most promising young coaches in European football, bringing fresh ideas, modern methodology, and valuable international experience to the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
Tanrivermis fills the void left by Branko Nisevic, who stepped down midway through the season and had been temporarily replaced by his assistant Andrei Agius.
“It is a great honour to join Hibernians FC,” the Turkish coach said in a statement.
“From my first conversations with the club, I felt genuine ambition and a strong desire to continue building something special.
“I am excited to start working with the players, the staff, and our supporters. Together, we will work every day to build a team that plays high energy football, competes with courage, and makes everyone connected to this club proud.”
Tanrıvermiş began his coaching career in some of Europe’s most respected football environments, holding coaching roles within the youth academies of Galatasaray, AS Roma, and Spezia Calcio.
His coaching education was developed through the Football Association (England) and the Football Association of Wales, complementing his practical experience with internationally recognised coaching methodology.
In 2023, he was recognised as Best Young Coach of the Year at the prestigious Maurizio Maestrelli Awards in Italy, acknowledging his outstanding work with AS Roma’s academy.
He later made the transition to senior football, earning widespread recognition for leading Austrian side SKN St Pölten through one of the most impressive turnarounds of the 2024/25 season. Taking charge with the team sitting 12th after nine matches, he guided the club to 40 points from the remaining 19 league games, recording 12 victories and four draws while implementing an attractive, disciplined style of football.
The 36-year-old coach is known for his progressive football, structured build-up play, tactical flexibility, high-intensity pressing, and modern positional football, but above all, in line with the club’s philosophy, a strong focus on youth development.
On his proud, Hibernians president Ranier Bezzina was delighted with the appointment.
“We are proud to welcome Tuğberk Tanrıvermiş to our club. His modern coaching philosophy, combined with experience in top European academies, aligns perfectly with our vision for the future. We believe he has the qualities to take Hibernians forward both domestically and in European competition,” he said.
Tanrıvermiş will begin his duties immediately, taking charge of first-team preparations ahead of the upcoming season, with a clear objective of building a competitive and dynamic squad capable of challenging for honours.
