One day after announcing their signing of former Hibernians forward Neil Cassar, Valletta Fighters BC confirmed local veteran guard Peter Shoults, ahead of their clash against Mellieha Libertas in the John Tabone Shield.

Shoults had been on the club’s radar since the summer and when he was not confirmed by Gzira Athleta for another season, speculation immediately began about him joining the capital club. Now, the Fighters have gotten their man as he joins the rest of the squad on court on Sunday.

“Peter Shoults is a new player of BC Valletta Fighters,” a club statement read.

“One of the most experienced players in the league, Peter is a combo guard with several years of experience playing professional and in the Maltese national team.

“Peter will debut today against Mellieha in the semifinal of the John Tabone Cup.”

Shoults has been a household name in Maltese basketball for many years and Valletta sporting director Davide Bellinzona said he was the first name they had considered when creating the team.

“I tried all summer long to convince him and finally we have him on our team for the season,”Bellinzona said.

“He is a great player and he can share his experience with the American and local players. I’m very happy to have him with us.
