Maltese sailors battling for glory in world’s biggest sailing race

Richard Schulteis and his sister Antonia turned on the style at the Euro Cup currently being held in Kiel, Germany as the two Maltese sailors are battling it out for overall victory in the 29er class.

Victoria Schulteis, the other member of the family, struggled to keep her positive momentum on day two of competition in the 49erFX division.

The annual sailing competition, which is held every year in the city of Kiel, capital of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, is regarded as the largest sailing event in the world.

In the 29er class, Richard Schulteis and his sailing partner Max Korner continued to dominate the division to preserve top spot in the division. In fact, they secured top spot in race four and six while placing second in the other two regattas held.

Schulteis and Korner are leading the way on eight net points, six clear of the pairing of Antonia Schulteis and her partner Ole Ulrich. The duo managed two wins on day and then placed third and fifth to climb the rankings to second place on 14 net points.

Danish duo Jens-Christian Dehn Toftejhoj and Jens-Philip Dehn-Toftehoj slipped to third place on 17 net points.

Spanish duo Tamara Echegoyen and Paula Barcelo lead the way on 21 net points, ahead of Germany’s Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke (30) and Jana Germani and Giorgia Bertuzzi, of Italy, who amassed 40 net points.
