Maltese abroad: Double-Double for Kahler against South West Metro Pirates

The impressive performances for Sunshine Coast-based Nelson Kahler are piling up as the Queensland State League reaches round 10. The Times of Malta’s Sportsdesk looks at Kahler and other Maltese professionals plying their trade overseas in another segment of ‘Maltese abroad’.

AUSTRALIA

Kahler (picture) got a double-double as Sunshine Coast Phoenix beat the South West Metro Pirates 93-91 on Saturday.

The Malta international scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, all within 28 minutes of playing time. This makes Kahler the second overall rebounder of the league with an average of 13.18 rebounds (total of 145 this season).

This result confirms the Phoenix’s top-six finish as they place fifth with seven wins and four losses.

FRANCE

Aaron Falzon managed only one made shot as he faced reduced minutes in the second Etoile Angers match this week, on Friday. The side won their first game on the road easily as the beat DAX Basket 87-59. Falzon did however, grab six boards.

Previously on Tuesday, the Malta forward scored 11 points with a 57% field goal percentage as Etoile Angers beat Vanves GPSO 81-73.

Etoile Angers now play Orlean Loiret in the French Cup next Tuesday.

ITALY

Pallacanestro Orzinuovi players lineup before their match against Tezenis Verona.

Kurt Cassar’s Pallacanestro Orzinuovi were unable to get past Tezenis Verona in the Italian A2 Super cup on Saturday. The side lost 95-77 in a match which Verona dominated, winning three out of four quarters. Cassar also was unable to get any points on the board during the game.

Tevin Falzon

Tevin Falzon’s Pallacanestro Palestrina will be preparing in full force as the official fixtures have been announced for the side as they face Fortitudo on November 1 (tip off: 18.00).

This will be Falzon’s first official opportunity to show of his intentions for the season after joining over the summer. 

SPAIN

Mikela Riolo’s official debut at Magec Tias was put on hold after suffering an injury off the court. The side hosted Azkoitia Azpeltia in the first home game of the season but lost 48-67 in a game dominated by the visitors.
