Aurelien Cousin has been appointed as the new coach of Exiles SC, the Premier Division club announced.
The French-born player, who represented Malta at two successive European Championship finals, has retired as a player last week after Exiles’ defeat to Neptunes in the BOV Knock Out semi-finals.
Now, Cousin has been offered the chance to take over the role of senior coach and he has put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
“Exiles Sports Club are pleased to announce that they have appointed club captain Aurelien Cousin as senior coach for the next 3 years,” the club said in a statement.
Cousin, who played his final match of his illustrious career last week, joined Exiles in 2007 as a foreign player, and played for five consecutive seasons with the club in the summer months.
“He was then appointed senior coach in 2011, before embarking on another playing career with San Giljan (2015-2017) and Exiles (2018-2020) for another three years each, during which time he also represented Malta at the European Waterpolo Championships.
“Aurelien will also be taking the Under 15 and Under 13 squads as well as supervising all waterpolo development at the club.
“Whilst wishing Aurelien the best of luck in this new, exciting appointment, everyone associated with Exiles is proud of this long standing relationship between the two parties.”
