Friday’s Ligue 1 match between Marseille and Lens at the Velodrome has been postponed after “more than 10 players” from the visiting team tested positive for coronavirus, officials said Wednesday.
In a statement, the league (LFP) said “noting the absence of more than 10 Lens players from a list of 30 because of positive RT-PCR tests… it has decided to postpone the game between Marseille and Lens.”
It is the second weekend in a row Lens have had their game called off. Last Sunday’s fixture with Nantes was postponed after 11 members of the Lens squad tested positive for Covid-19.
Marseille’s meeting with Bordeaux on the opening night of the campaign in August was also rescheduled for the same reason.
Lens have been hit hard by the virus over the past week, with 18 confirmed cases, the majority of which are players.
Assistant coach Lilian Nalis, deputising for Franck Haise who is among those infected, said “two-thirds of the cases are asymptomatic”.
