Maltese officials to take charge of Italy U-21 qualifier

Malta international referee Matthew De Gabriele has been appointed in charge of the 2021 UEFA U-21 qualifier between Luxembourg and Italy, at the Stade Municipal de Differdange of Luxembourg.

The match is from Group 1 of the U-21 qualifiers, scheduled for Sunday at 5.30pm.

Italy are currently leading the group with 19 points after 8 games and are at the back of a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Iceland in Reykjavik.

Luxembourg, on their part, are bottom of the table with just three points to show for their efforts.

This will be the second time that De Gabriele will be officiating a match involving the U-21 selection of Italy.

In fact, in September 2019 he was in charge of the international friendly between the Azzurrini and Moldova, at the Stadio Massimino of Catania.

De Gabriele will be aided by assistant referees Roberto Vella and Christopher Francalanza together with Malcolm Spiteri as fourth official.
