The FA Trophy third round match between Hibernians and Żejtun Corinthians, which was scheduled to be played on Wednesday, has been postponed by the Malta Football Association a few hours before kick-off due to COVID-19.
The MFA said that they took this decision in consultation with the Public Health Authorities.
Hibernians and Żejtun Corinthians were due to face each other in the Last 32 match at the National Stadium, with kick-off set at 6pm.
The Times of Malta can reveal that the Malta Football Association took this decision after a number of COVID-19 cases have emerged in the squad of Żejtun Corinthians.
The players and members of the technical staff of the Premier League club underwent tests in the last few days and following results, the local governing body of football decided to call off the match.
It is expected that the Żejtun Corinthians squad will now be asked to observe a two-week mandatory quarantine which will inevitably postpone their upcoming league fixtures, starting with Sunday’s crucial match against Balzan.
