Jed Valletta came off the bench to score the all-important goal that helped St Andrews knock out Sliema Wanderers 1-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.
This was without doubt the biggest upset in the Last 32 round of this year’s FA Trophy as not many people thought that St Andrews, currently in the lower rungs of the Challenge League, were capable of upsetting Premier League side Sliema Wanderers.
However, Brian Said’s boys produced a gallant display which saw them match their more-quoted opponents for much of the match.
Sliema’s quest became more complicated when they had Alessandro Milesi shown the red card ten minutes from time after he picked up his second yellow card.
And St Andrews made the most of their numerical advantage as in the first minute of stoppage time, Valletta leapt high to head the ball past Sliema goalkeeper Jake Galea to hand his team a famous victory.
