Watch: Joseph Portelli appointed new president of Ħamrun Spartans

Joseph Portelli is the new president of Ħamrun Spartans, the Premier League club announced yesterday.

The club said in a statement on their facebook page that the Gozitan entrepreneur has been named as the new club chief, replacing Nunzio Antignani, who led the club for the last few seasons.

Portelli has been the main catalyst behind Ħamrun Spartans rise to the top of Maltese football this season as he succeeded turning the club’s fortunes with a professional administrative set up.

During the summer, he invested heavily in the squad, bring in several signings, including Malta internationals Juan Corbalan, Matthew Guillaumier and Joseph Mbong among others.

Such arrivals have inevitably helped the team play a leading role in this year’s title race as they are currenlty leading the standings on 53 points, two clear of Hibernians whom they face in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday at the National Stadium.
