Swieqi, Mġarr win as Mtarfa snatch first point in women’s league

In fact, as announced by the Government on Wednesday, the Malta Football Association has temporarily suspended all football competitions in Malta and Gozo until April 11.

The Oranges made light work of Kirkop United as they won 4-0, with captain Dorianne Theuma grabbing a brace. Theuma, who won the Player of the Month award for January/February.

The former Hibernians player has now scored 11 goals, with her brace being the 10th scored in the domestic league throughout 2021 by any player.

Forward Demi Magrin registered a goal herself to reach the 10-goal tally while defender Jessica Dimech was the other scorer, her first of the season.

Swieqi remain second on 32 poins, one point ahead of Mġarr who defeated Raiders Għargħur 3-0.

Skipper Brenda Borg broke the deadlock with her 11th goal of the campaign before Yolande Attard found her fourth of the season to double the lead. Before the break, Claudette Xuereb’s second goal in this league wrapped up the win.

Meanwhile, it was a memorable night for Mtarfa as they managed to cancel the zero from the standings to secure their first-ever point at senior level.

Led by coach Shawn Meilak, Mtarfa earned a 0-0 draw with Mosta. The Blues, on their part, now have eight points as they sit second bottom.
