Malta snooker player Alex Borg was eliminated from the World Championship qualifiers after he was beaten by Rod Lawler 6-1 in Sheffield on Tuesday.
The Maltese professional was in action in Tuesday’s morning session against veteran player Lawler but struggled for consistency against his English opponent.
The match took a difficult turn for the Mellieħa-born cueis who surged into a two-frame lead, including a run of 89 in the second frame.
Borg managed to pull a frame back in the third but that was as good as it got for the Maltese player.
In fact, Lawler went on to win the next four successive frames, which also included a run of 59 in the sixth frame, to wrap up a convincing victory.
Lawler will now go on and face Chinese player Yuan Sijun in the second qualifying round.
