Valletta have decided not to renew the contract of four of their overseas players for next season.
Argentine midfielder Santiago Malano, Brazilian winger Wellington, Argentine winger Leandro Aguirre and forward Matteo Piciollo will not form part of the Citizens’ first team squad next season after their contracts were not renewed.
Malano and Piciollo have been at Valletta for a few years.
Piciollo joined Valletta in 2018 from their neighbouring rivals Floriana and made 94 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 18 assists.
On the other hand, Malano move to the capital club in 2016 where he made 136 appearances and scored 21 goals.
During his time, Piciollo and Malano helped the Citizens to win back-to-back league titles in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
As regards, Aguirre and Wellington, both players joined Valletta this season.
Aguirre started his second spell at the Citizens last September and made 19 appearances this season, scoring two goals.
As regards Wellington he arrived from Sirens during the January transfer window and played 13 times for the Citizens, scoring three goals.
In the coming days, Valletta will make a decision on two other overseas players, namely Ivan Maric and Miguel Alba, whose contract also expired at the end of the season.
