Ramon Gusman is no longer the president of Marsa FC.
During Tuesday’s MFA Council meeting, it was announced that Gusman had resigned from his post with immediate effect.
Gusman’s departure from Marsa FC is a bitter blow for the ambitious Challenge League club but it is understood that came about after the club’s failure to be awarded promotion to the Premier League.
The Marsa FC supremo had been an inspirational figure behind the club’s transformation which had seen him help the club win promotion from Division Two last season.
This season, Gusman continued to invest in the squad and managed to further strengthen the team which saw them dominate this season’s Challenge League and when the championship was stopped in March, due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, were top of the standings.
The Red Blues amassed 50 points, three clear of Pembroke Athleta and 14 clear of third-placed San Ġwann.
However, the fact that the 75 per cent threshold of matches played saw the MFA EXCO decide to abandon this year’s championship and no team were promoted.
This setback, was not taken well by the Marsa FC administration with Gusman opting to leave the club.
