Floriana FC have appointed former former Sampdoria and Catania coach Gianluca Atzori at the helm of the first team, the Premier League club announced.
The Premier League side said that they are launching an ambitious technical project that will see a common football philosophy adopted across all Floriana FC squads.
The new professional set-up will be under the guidance of Sporting Director Nereo Omero, who co-ordinated similar projects at AC Milan and Brescia Calcio.
Atzori will be assisted by Carlo Simionato and Darren Vella who will be focusing mainly on athletic preparation and match analysis.
“Floriana FC under the guidance of president Johann Said and the new committee, has appointed a top-level technical staff who will be leading a very ambitious project focused on the development of the club, from the nursery up to the senior squad,”Floriana FC said in a statement.
The Greens said that Atzori, who holds a UEFA Pro Licence, is well known in Italian football, both as a player with Torino, Empoli and Palermo as well as coach where he was at the helm at Sampdoria, Spezia and Catania in the Italian Serie A.
Anthony Gafa will be acting as Team Manager whkle Floriana Piscopo will be the kit manager, assisted by Clayton Galea.
“This technical staff is the result of weeks of hard work,” Said said in the statement.
“We didn’t want just to appoint a coach that would lead the team in the Premier League but we took the decision to invest in a complete technical project that will increase the profile of this glorious club with very ambitious targets for the coming years.”
