Malta women’s international defender Nicole Sciberras is set to start a new chapter at Tavagnacco, as she is close to put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Serie B side.
Sciberras, 20, has been on the books of Italian champions Juventus Women for the past two seasons with whom she won a Viareggio Tournament in the 2019/2020 season and finished runner-up in both Serie A Primavera campaigns.
With the Bianconere, Sciberras played 27 games in two seasons with two goals against Sassuolo and Chievo Fortitudo.
In her first season, she played under the guidance of coach Alessandro Spugna who is now in charge of Roma women’s team whereas last season, she had Silva Piccini as her coach.
In the early stages of the 2020/2021 season, Sciberras was also called up with the senior team for the Voila Tournament in Lyon, where Juventus faced French sides Montpellier and Olympique Lyonnais at the Groupama Stadium.
This will be Sciberras’ fifth straight season in Italy after two years at Grifone Gialloverde in Serie B and Serie C, that preceded her spell at Juventus.
The Malta defender has already 21 caps for the national team, making her debut in 2018. She was part of the record-breaking side that registered 10 points in the recent UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 qualifications.
Tavagnacco, based in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, are one of the oldest teams in Italian women’s football. Over the years, they were one of the best sides having also won the Coppa Italia twice in 2013 and 2014. They also finished second in Serie A in 2011 and 2013.
In 2011 and 2013, Tavagnacco represented Italy in the UEFA Women’s Champions League as well, where they were eliminated in the first hurdle by Malmo of Sweden and Fortuna Hjorring of Denmark respectively.
The upcoming season will be their second in a row in Serie B as they are vying for the top spot which secures automatic promotion into Serie A. The 14-team league is set to start on September 12.
Tavagnacco will be also participating in the Coppa Italia which is reserved for all Serie A and Serie B teams.
