Preparations for the highly anticipated UEFA Playmakers, in collaboration with Disney, are in full swing as the Malta Football Association hosted a two-day course for 84 deliverers; 56% of which females, that will be providing the sessions to the participating girls.
Two separate courses were held at the Centenary Hall. The first group of deliverers had the course on June 30 and July 1 whereas the second group followed on July 2 and July 3.
The course hosted several PE teachers, Girl Guides, LSE’s, teachers, coaches, students from MCAST and female football players as well.
During this workshop, the deliverers were prepared with the necessary content and methodology to deliver the best experience possible to the girls that will be involved in this project.
The course included practical sessions that involved girls from Mġarr United, Birkirkara and Sliema Wanderers. A second group of girls from the Birzebbuga Girl Guides participated in the practical sessions, as they were representing the Girl Guides centres of Malta and Gozo.
Malta women’s international player Haley Bugeja, who is at the back of an eye-catching debut season in Serie A Femminile with Sassuolo, was also present for the practical sessions during the courses, as she has been named Ambassador of this project.
“A heartfelt thanks to the organising team, it was a great experience and looking forward to start working with you,” one of the participants said.
“Honestly, I really enjoyed it, otherwise I would not be sending this message, promise,” another participant said.
Other participants highlighted the professional organisation and how detailedthis course was.
“Being the first course I have ever done with the Malta Football Association, I am personally pleased by the turnout and really satisfied with how this course was delivered,” Martina Cortis, one of the participants explained.
Cortis, who is on the books of Birkirkara and has represented Malta at youth level, shed light on the group work that was done and which was beneficial for all participants to make this course even more engaging.
“I look forward to more courses like these as it was a valuable learning experience for me,” Cortis added.
Coach educators Vince Galea, Sephora Bajada, Rosalie Borgand Karen Heneghan have appreciated the feedback received from the participants and are looking forward to embark on this project come October2021.
“Let’s work hard together to make this project a big success for Malta and the Malta Football Association,” Pierre Brincat – Director of Women’s Football – said.
The girls taking part in the UEFA Playmakers project will be aged between 5 and 8 years in a holistic effort to engage more girls to the Beautiful Game.
