Depiro BC announced their newest signing as US center Alex Oriakhi joined the Mtarfa club on Tuesday.
The former University of Connecticut Huskies National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) championship winner comes to Malta on the back of a stint in Portugal with Vitoria SC.
Oriakhi was drafted by the Phoenix Suns back in 2013 as the 57th overall pick and was part of their Summer League roster that year. He was also part of the Sacramento Kings Summer League roster in 2014 where they won the competition in Las Vegas. However, he was not part of the final squad during the regular season and pursued moves overseas.
The 31-year-old joins newly-reconfirmed coach James Bamfield’s squad for a season in which they are looking to go ahead of last season’s fourth place in the standings.
