FIFPRO highlights Malta women’s team improved conditions

The landmark agreement over the conditions of the players representing the Malta women’s national football team were highlighted by FIFPRO in an interview with captain Emma Lipman.

Discussions between the Malta Football Players Association (MFPA), acting on behalf of the players, and the Malta Football Associations (MFA) had successfully concluded, resulting in improved terms for the members of the women’s national team.

Through this agreement, the women’s national team players will be covered if they get injured while playing for their national team besides other benefits such as personalised kits and increased match recovery facilities.

They will also have a dedicated home dressing room before international matches. An agreement has also been reached over the remuneration for the players forming part of the women’s senior squad during international windows.

“It’s a huge step in the progression of the women’s game in Malta, partnering with the MFPA and reaching an improved agreement with the MFA,” team captain Emma Lipman told FIFPRO.

“As players we want to be in the best position possible, so we are able to give our all on and off the pitch.

We are aware of the bigger picture and hope that by improving relationships and resources now, we will leave the national team in a better place for those who follow us.”

The Como Women defender added that this is an exciting time for football in general in Malta given the recent positive results gained by the men’s team since coach Devis Mangia took over while the women’s team have been recording milestone after milestone.

“I hope that this improved agreement is just the start of something special, because although our island is small our potential is huge,” Lipman said.

The Malta women’s national team are at the back of their first ever World Cup victory after beating Azerbaijan 2-1. They return in action on November 26 when they will host Montenegro before their away game against Bosnia-Herzegovina four days later.
