National School of Sport students to attend training camp in Ostia next week

Eighteen students from the National School of Sport will be travelling to Ostia to take part in a training camp in collaboration with the Acquatic Sports Association of Malta and SportMalta.

Details of the training camp, that will be held next week, were given during a news conference by NSS head Robert Magro in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Clifton Grima.

Next week, the NSS will be training in the same premises that are used by the Italian waterpolo national team.

Dr Grima said that the training camp will be a unique experience for the students.

“I am sure that this will be a huge experience for these students, and I hope that they make the most of it,” the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport said.

“The Nationa School of Sport has the main objective to continue to organise similar camps in other disiplines so that it fulfils the main object of the national sports strategy – so that we raise the level of Maltese sport.”

On his part, Jude Zammit, the NSS Director General, said that these training camps help in the athletes development.

“These collaborations help young players to raise their level in their particular sport,” Zammit said.

“The Ministry for Education will continue to encourage that similar opportunities are undertaken.”

Mark Cutajar, the SportMalta CEO said that such training camps will be of great benefit for these young players.

Robert Magro said: “The aim of the school is that in the near future similar training camps are organised for all disciplines that are practised in the school so that we not only improve the academical level but also the level of sport in Malta.”

Magro augured all the best to the students and their coaches that will take part in this training camp and emphasised the importance that all athletes continue to show huge determination to succeed in their career.”

The waterpolo students will leave the islands on Monday and will be accompanied by NSS coach Niki Lanzon, Malta national team coach Karl Izzo and his assistant Anthony Farrugia.
