Soufiane Lagzir to continue career in Italy after leaving Ħamrun Spartans

Soufiane Lagzir has agreed to leave Ħamrun Spartans in the January transfer window and has decided to pursue his career in the Italian Serie D, the Times of Malta can confirm.

The Moroccan striker was re-signed by the Spartans at the start of the season but has struggled to command a regular place with the Reds.

It is understood that the Spartans have decided to part ways with Lagzir and look at other options to try and bolster their forward line.

Initially, it was thought that Lagzir would remain to play in the Premier League for the second part of the season.

In fact, he was linked with a loan move to Sliema Wanderers. However, the player has no plans to continue his career in Malta and has his heart set for a return in Italian football where he is planning to join a team in Serie D.

The Spartans are already working on bringing in a valuable replacement for Lagzir.

In fact, this week Colombian striker Carlos Ibarguen has started training individually with the Spartans coaching staff before he will be properly assessed when the whole first-team squad returns to training on Monday.

Ibarguen is a former Colombia U-20 international who has been on the books of Mexican giants Tigres UANL. Last season he played in Ecuador with Tecnico Universitario.
