Veteran Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini has recovered from Covid-19, the Serie A club announced on Friday.
“Chiellini carried out a swab for Covid-19, with the examination providing a negative result,” a team statement read.
“The player has therefore recovered and is no longer subjected to the isolation regime, and will join the team tomorrow (for training).”
The 37-year-old Italian international defender could however still be rested in Sunday’s Serie A game against Roma, with a view to the Italian SuperCup against Inter Milan in the San Siro next Wednesday.
Inter Milan’s Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko has also recovered from coronavirus, having tested positive late December, the Italian champions said.
Dzeko has tested negative but must await a second swab before rejoining the group and possibly playing a role in Sunday’s league game against Lazio.
A Covid-19 resurgence has thrown Serie A into turmoil with four matches unable to be played on Thursday with another three involving Torino, Bologna and Udinese in doubt on Sunday.
