The Malta Basketball Association have appointed Alan Kaleo Walls as their new men’s national team head coach, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The American coach fills the void left by Italian Andrea Paccarie who had led the team to the gold medal in the European Championships for Small States in 2019.
His main task with the Malta Basketball Association is to step up the men’s national team’s preparations ahead of next year’s Games of the Small States of Europe that will be held on our islands.
Walls’ first major international commitment will be this summer when he leads the men’s selection at the European Championships for Small States.
The national team have been drawn in Group A against Andorra and Azerbaijan in the Championships that will be played at the Malta Basketball Association Pavilion in Ta’ Qali between June 28 and July 3.
Walls is an experienced FIBA licensed international basketball coach and administrator who boasts over 28 years of experience in the game.
In fact, Walls has been involved in both youth development as well as been in charge of professional and national teams in 17 countries on five continents.
Walls has worked with the national federations of Turkey, Romania, Palestine, Mongolia and El Salvador. He has also conducted camps and clinics throughout the United States, including his native Hawaii, Guatemala, Mexico Costa Rica, Argentina China, Hong Kong, Kenya and Israel.
In 2010 Walls was tasked by the Turkish Basketball Federation to be the camp director of the FIBA Children of the World Basketball Camp at the FIBA World Championships.
