Malta international Sophie Abela will be heading to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference postseason tournament with her team the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS).
The side, having achieved the seventh seed, is set to play second seed Colorado Mesa University in a quarter-final on Tuesday (tip-off: 17.30 local time/01.30 Wednesday Malta time).
In her first season with the team, Abela has averaged 6.6 points a game across 25 appearances – started 21, going 40% from the field and 58% from the line. She averaged 2.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game
For the side, this will be the first outing in the tournament since winning it back in 2017. They finished with a 12-15 record this regular season after a 77-67 loss to South Dakota Mines University in the final fixture of the regular season. Abela, a starter on the day, ended the game with eight points and four assists after 26 minutes of play.
If UCCS were to win their respective game, they will play the winner between third and sixth seeds Westminister College or MSU Denver.
