Freccia Blu take top billing at the Voomquest UIM V2 World Championship

The first Grand Prix of the 2022 Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championship concluded successfully on Sunday afternoon in a highly-charged day full of high spirits.

The Cyber Class race, which on Sunday consisted of a longer course being the final day of competition,  was won by Laia Zammit racing El Diablo.

Zammit took the third and final chequered flag of the Cyber Class for the weekend.

The race start saw Clive Butler’s Bad Company take the lead but he was quickly overtaken by Zammit who kept a steady lead throughout the five lap race.

With racing complete it was Bad Company who took the overall win in the first race of this year’s Cyber Class Series, followed by The Element (Celine Farrugia) and El Diablo (Laia Zammit).

Meanwhile, there was no doubt that Sunday’s V2 race was going to be a duel between Freccia Blu and El Diablo who both gained a win in the first two days of racing.

A close start between the two soon saw Freccia Blu take the lead and delivering a flawless performance to ensure that they had established a good gap ahead of El Diablo.

At the end of the 12-lap race Beppe Debono and Dustin Mifsud drove back to the waiting crowd proudly waving the chequered flag.

Commenting after the race Debono expressed his satisfaction at the outcome of the weekend, particularly since before the start of the weekend he was not expecting such a result.

“We are thrilled to have concluded such an exhilarating weekend of Voomquest action.  Voomquest is not just a racing event, it is a lifestyle experience that is being enjoyed by many enthusiasts. This weekend was the perfect example of what Voomquest is all about,” enthused Aaron Ciantar, Voomquest Founder.

“We cannot express our gratitude enough towards our sponsors, the authorities and of course the teams who made this weekend happen. Thank you!”

Voomquest organisers also added that after Saturday’s incident involving Team Cutting Edge and following a decision by the UIM, it was unanimously decided that since 70% of Race 2 had been covered, position points were still given to Team Cutting Edge.
