Netherlands attacker Vivianne Miedema has caught coronavirus, the Dutch football federation announced on Tuesday, 24 hours before their second game at Euro 2022.
Miedema, who turns 26 on Saturday will miss Wednesday’s match as the reigning champions face Portugal.
“Vivianne Miedema has unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19 and will therefore go into isolation in the coming days,” Netherlands’ women’s team said on Twitter.
“When she no longer has symptoms and tests negative, she can rejoin the selection,” they added.
The Arsenal player is the Netherlands all-time leading scorer with 94 goals in 112 appearances.
Dutch midfielder Jackie Groenen is also isolating after failing a Covid-19 test on Sunday.
Captain Sari van Veenendaal is out of the tournament after suffering a shoulder injury in the Netherlands’ tournament opener with Sweden, on Saturday.
Pre-match tests are not mandatory at the Euro, held in England.
No postponements are allowed so long as teams have at least 13 players, including one goalkeeper, available.
