Birkirkara-Sirens to open 2022-23 Premier League, followed by Hibs vs Valletta clash

Hibernians and Valletta will meet on the first day of the season.

The Malta Football Association published the first round fixtures of the BOV Premier League that will get underway on Friday, August 19.

This season the Premier League will return to its ‘old format’ as 14 teams will be competing in this year’s championship. They will face each other twice in a round-robin format.

The first match of the season will be played at the National Stadium on Friday August 19 when Birkirkara take on Sirens at 6.30pm.

The plum fixture of Match Day 1 will be played afterward as Valletta will take on champions Hibernians, with the match kicking off at 8.45pm.

Balzan and Żebbuġ Rangers will also be in action on Friday, August 19 when they face off at the Centenary Stadium at 7.30pm.

The remaining four matches from Match Day 1 will be played on Saturday, August 20.

Ħamrun Spartans face Marsaxlokk at 6.30pm and will be followed by the clash between Floriana and Pietà Hotspurs at 8.30pm

Gżira United will face Sta Lucia at the Tony Bezzina Stadium at 6.30pm while Mosta face Gudja United at 8.45pm.

The much-anticipated clash between champions Hibernians and Ħamrun Spartans, the 2021 champions, is scheduled for Friday, August 26 at 8.45pm.

Birkirkara and Floriana will go head to head on September 3 at 6.30pm.

The first derby of the season between Valletta and Floriana is pencilled for Saturday, September 10 at the National Stadium, with kick off time set at 6.30pm.

The following day, Hibernians will face Gżira United at the Tony Bezzina Stadium at 7.30pm.

Match Day 5 will provide two exciting fixtures as Ħamrun Spartans take on Floriana on October 1 at the National Stadium, starting at 3pm while Birkirkara and Valletta will face off on October 2 at 3pm.

Another derby is in store on Saturday, October 8 when Valletta face Ħamrun Spartans at the National Stadium at 3pm. The following week, the Spartans have another tough match when they face Birkirkara at the same venue and the same time.

Gżira and Ħamrun Spartans will face each other at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday, October 30 at 3pm.

Hibernians will be up against Birkirkara at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday, November 5, while the following week the Stripes play Gżira United on November 12 at the Centenary Stadium.
