Maria Farrugia made her first competitive appearance for her new side Durham as they launched their new Barclays Women’s Championship campaign.
Durham played hosts to Farrugia’s former club Sunderland Ladies as they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Farrugia, member of the Malta women’s national team, started on the bench before being introduced on the 68th minute.
In last season’s Championship campaign, Durham placed sixth in the 12-team with 34 points.
Based in North East England, Durham have recruited other key players ahead of the new season including former England international Jessica Clarke.
Durham’s next game is an away fixture at Sheffield United.
