BUPA Luxol have made their first signing of the summer on Friday by naming US centre Tayler Mattos to their squad. All of this while confirming with the Times of Malta that Nick Vasovic has returned to the club for the coming season.
Following earlier reports and confirmation by the player’s agent, the club has also now confirmed that Mattos will join coach Duncan Fenech’s squad.
He will come to Malta on the back of his college experience with the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. Last season, he played in 25 of 28 games with 19 starts. He averaged 4.1 points per game at 44.9% from the field and 62.2% from the line.
Localised Serbian guard Vasovic, who played for Malta in the FIBA Small Countries Games back in 2016, was on the books of Mellieha Libertas last season but club sources have confirmed he has rejoined Luxol after leaving ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Vasovic was part of then-coach Adrian Mifsud’s roster as Mellieha made club history by winning the knockout and reaching the playoff finals, a series they lost to eventual champions Starlites FIJO.
