Five-time World Powerboat champion and Voomquest founder Aaron Ciantar has announced his participation as a wild card entry in the forthcoming GP3 to be held in Citta di Cervia, Italy this weekend.
This is the first time that the founder of Voomquest V2 World Championships will be competing in a Voomquest Grand Prix, having been granted a wildcard entry.
Racing under the team name Chaudron, Ciantar will be joined by co-driver Ryan Micallef.
Ciantar’s well-honed driving skills will be put to the test for the first time in the championships he himself developed.
A well-respected figure in the international racing circuit, Ciantar’s reputation as a skilled driver and boat builder contributed to Voomquest’s acceptance by the Union International Motonautique to become a World Championship event.
Also making their debut in the third Grand Prix of the year are Warson Motors Racing Team. Driven by Kevin Rey and Thierry Turuvani, the team will be racing under the Swiss flag.
A total of six teams will be taking part, and there is little doubt that current championship leaders El Diablo (Clive Butler/Sammy Grima) will be out to retain the top spot on the leaderboard.
Nonetheless, an interesting duel for championship points is expected to take place between them and Interceptor Remax (Sam Howes/Michael Xuereb).
Wildcard entry Chaudron will not be allocated championship points however they are expected to produce some spectacular racing throughout the weekend.
This is not the first time that the Voomquest World Championships have ventured away from Maltese waters. In 2018 the teams raced in Chioggia and Ischia while the following year they raced in Ragusa.
“Venturing away from Malta to race in unfamiliar waters makes the Voomquest GP even more exciting for our teams. Apart from providing our teams the opportunity to race away from Malta, it also helps us in our attempts to expand the Voomquest brand internationally. I am very excited to be able to race with the teams I work so closely with.” said Ciantar.
“It will be good to return to racing, rather than overseeing proceedings as I normally do”.
Racing will take place from Friday to Sunday.
