Malta international Joseph Mbong put on a solid shift as his Israeli club Ironi Kiryat hosted local giants Maccabi Haifa in Saturday’s league fixture.
Mbong, who made the move to Israel during the summer transfer window, assisted his team’s first goal as they fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of Maccabi Haifa.
The former Hibernians and Ħamrun Spartans player was unfortunate not to open the score for his side when his left-footed strike was disallowed for an initial offside after just 10 minutes.
Maccabi Haifa have now moved first with 21 points after nine games as they now set their sights on next week’s highlight clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
